Always use the programs native heading styles to ensure headings are properly marked as headings.I recommend using one of the first two options which are automatic tables. Select the references tab, then select table of contents. Select Define New Multilevel List from the drop-down menu. Select the Multilevel List button in the Paragraph group (see figure 3). Select the Home tab in the ribbon (see figure 2). On the menu, you'll see different header and footer styles that you can use as a starting pointall are fully editable. Select the first numbered heading in your document. It's in the 'Header & Footer' panel at the top of Word. Once the blank page has been created, make sure cursor is at the very start of the page.
